Thank You for the opportunity to talk about Home Cookin' for Dogs! First I have some really exciting news: Home Cookin' for Dogs! is an Award Winner! Best Books Award Finalist -in USA Book News Best Books 2008!

The book is a comprehensive feeding guide, that allows you to be the chef to your best friend. It is a collection of 11 diets, and 2 treat recipes. Quick, Easy & Fun. These are not the words that come to mind when you think of cooking for your pet. My goal is to change your mind, and show you how to give your pet the best possible diet with ingredients already in your kitchen. Fast, and simple. It has to be that too.

The inspriation for this book is my dog Jinger, she was allergic to just about every food we tried. She has corn and barley allergies, and would lose her hair and itch constantly. When the pet food recalls killed my friend's two dogs, I knew it was time to make a change in my lifestyle and Jinger's too. I just sat down and thought about it. I had just recently seen "The History of the Dog" on the History Channel. So what am I to do without dog food? What did other's do before there was any such thing? OK, they fed some of what they were eating. Hmmmm, at that point, I began to go through the list of things I knew were bad for dogs, and eliminate that, then I had to eliminate Jinger's allergies. What was left was a lot! Dogs, can eat a lot of things we eat. So from that list I started making dinners, and feeding them. My husband appointed himself quality control and would taste them all, Jinger would approve or disapprove them. So Jinger wrote the book some as well. Pizanno really loves the protein puffs that carry his name.

Home Cookin' for Dogs is available at: Authorhouse.com/bookstore or you can call to order: 888-280-7715. This title is also available through your local bookseller or preferred on-line retailer. Dear Dana,
What a beautiful dog. My dog is part cocker spaniel crossed with a golden retriver and is 14 years old. To me she is very special. I love her very much. Your book has my attention and I would like to know more, please fill me in. My Panda has some food allergies and I avoid all that she is allergic to. Thanks again! Rosemarie

The trend is catching on. More people are realizing the commercial foods just don't have what it takes for a dog to meet their full potential. Home fed dogs live an average of 10yrs longer than commercial fed dogs. Believe it or not the lifespan of a dog should be approx. 27 years. In the US we are lucky to have our friends 10 yrs. Here's a bonus. You save money, because you are feeding the same groceries you already purchase. You don't have to buy dog food anymore. Plus, if you are ever in a disaster where there is no dog food available i.e. Katrina the recent floods, etc. You know what your pet can safely eat. K-9 Officers are interested because we are talking about the well being and performance of their partners.

Hi SuzSee,
Yes there are cookbooks for cats too! I believe nutritional needs of cats are slightly different from dogs. Cats require a higher protein level than dogs. One reason so many cats perished during the recalls. Melamine artificially increases protein levels. So there was more of it in cat food. Cats also require a nutrient called Taurine, present in fish. My grandpa preferred cats to dogs. Cats were useful in the barn and didn't harm livestock. All he ever fed was fresh from the cow milk and cream and bread, and a few leftovers. They of course supplemented their own diets with small game. They led fairly long lives and had several litters of kittens, which were always healthy and a delight to me, I loved to play with them.

Do you plan on publishing any more books? If so, what will your next book be about?

Reply to This

Yes, I love writing. I really surprised myself with "Home Cookin' for Dogs!" I am a Sci-Fi and Fantasy fan. A non-fiction about pet nutrition, is a long way from that!, Lol...Next book is in the works, it's a children's story about bunnies. That's as specific as I can get right now.

When was your book published? How do you market your book?

Reply to This

The book was released May of 2008 and is being marketed by the publisher, Authorhouse. I also have 2 websites and do some booksignings. I was so happy to find out they offered marketing services, I signed up for them - before they even had the manuscript. It makes all the difference in your success. I am only one person, and my resources are limited. They are professional publishers and have the whole world to work with! It only made sense to use this medium.
